: 20 Years of Trust Between Chemring and Parafix
In the run up to DSEI 2007, exhibitor Chemring is celebrating a 20 year relationship with supply partner Parafix Tapes & Conversions. Chemring is a world leader in the design, development and manufacture of advanced air, naval and land countermeasures. Specialising in Expendable Decoy Countermeasures, Chemring utilises the latest electronic signalling to deploy its flares which combat heat seeking missiles.
With consistent, 100% reliability a crucial element of this life-saving product, Chemring puts enormous trust in its supply partners to deliver the best products for the job, as this is one application with no opportunity for real-life testing – until it’s too late. Parafix has been chosen to work alongside Chemring, and has delivered the right solution for two decades. Furthermore, in today’s uncertain world Chemring is keen to work alongside partners capable of meeting its variable supply needs. Thankfully, Parafix has invested heavily in supplying Kanban facilities to its customers, and has developed its Just-In-Time procedures to facilitate just such a support network. In terms of production, the challenge was to ensure that during deployment the flare released in the correct direction and in sequence. To this end Parafix devised a flare wrap assembly, comprising an aluminium and filament tape die-cut that adds strength to the flare pellets . This ensures that the flare offers improved performance, reliability and safety by way of a safe sequencer to ensure the flare remains safe until pyrotechnically ejected from its outer case. The Flare is qualified to UK MoD requirements and is in service with NATO and numerous overseas air forces on a wide variety of Light Attack/Trainer and Transport Aircraft as well as Helicopters. With a strong order book and continued product development schemes in place, Parafix and Chemring continue to work together to provide the safest and most efficient countermeasure products that the armed forces can rely on first time, every time.
