: Lancing Businesses Join Together To Promote Cycling To Work
June 16 is the start of National Bike Week, and as part of the celebrations, an event was held on Lancing Business Park for employees and employers alike.
People who cycle to work on the Business Park were encouraged to visit the Bike To Work stand outside Parafix Tapes & Conversions on Wednesday 20th June to pick up their free biker's breakfast as part of the event. Managing Director of Parafix Tapes & Conversions Mike Punter provided the breakfasts for all cyclists visiting the stand between 7am and 9am, in a bid to encourage more Business Park employees to cycle and leave the car at home. Cyclists could also enter a national competition to win one of four Centre Parc family holidays for up to six people, and grab some West Sussex County Council Travelwise goodies. Staff from Parafix turned out in numbers, and were accompanied by cyclists from Fairtrade Windows, Downlands Packaging, Signature, Salesmark, Dawson News, UK Trade Roof Kits, Eschmann, Spray Shop and Fastway Couriers. In total, 23 cyclists visited the stand, making a combined total of 55 miles cycled, or 110 miles round trip. Chris Shephard, Business Park Co-ordinator for Lancing Business Park said "the businesses and local partners have been working hard to find a solution to the congestion that the Business Park suffers from, and this is one of the ways it could be done. It will improve the quality of life on the Business Park, reduce the congestion and get people fit at the same time." Lancing Business Park Ltd, made up of a number of business park businesses, intends to work closely with West Sussex County Council TravelWise team in the near future to consider more efficient and effective initiatives to reduce congestion.
